an active committee of volunteers who are trustees of the branch funds. the branch is responsible for the brighton animal shelter at patcham. over 3000 animals are cared for at the shelter each year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, reptiles, foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, chickens, ferrets and various birds, both wild and domestic. facilities are available for almost every animal until it is ready for re-homing or release. please take a look at all the animals that currently need re-homing, as well as lots more information on boarding, donating, events, volunteering, and lots more! recent news 07 jun bailey: neutered male 7 months bailey came into the shelter via a member of the public, he was not getting on too well with the child in the home. we have neutered and microchipped him. bailey is a very sweet cat. he has bundles of energy and is always chasing things in his pen at the shelter. due to baileys past we would like bailey to go to a home with teenage children or an adult home. he is a nice lovely cat read more 07 jun katie: spayed female 10 years old katie came into the shelter from the vets as a stray. she is an older lady about 10 years old. we are presuming spayed due to her age, we have microchipped. katie loves fuss and attention, she likes a nice stroke and loves treats and chicken. due to her age we feel she would not cope with young children and she would benefit from a calm quiet home. she does not like other cats or dogs so would prefer to be an only pet in the home read more 05 jun bindi: 2 years, female, terrier cross bindi came in on the 4th of june as she was an unclaimed stray. she is a friendly, lively girl who can be unsure of new people until she has met you. bindi knows sit on command and enjoys playing with toys but will need ongoing training. she is good with other dogs but has not been tested with cats yet. bindi is a new arrival who is still being assessed. read more 05 jun valerie: 2 years, female, cross breed valerie came in on the 4th of june as an unclaimed stray. she is a very friendly, affectionate girl who knows sit and down on command, is good when groomed and enjoys playing with toys. valerie maggie may is wriggly when groomed and loves playing with toys. she is not housetrained. she is good with other dogs but has not been tested with cats yet. maggie may will be looking for an active, is a friendly, lively boy who knows sit, paw and his name on command, is housetrained, travels well and is good when groomed but would benefit from further training. ollie is sociable with other dogs but has not been tested with cats yet. he is a new arrival who is still being assessed. read more 02 jun joey roborovski hamster: joey came into the shelter as she was removed from an unsuitable home along with harvey the rabbit. she is a roborovski hamster we believe fully grown so adult. we are looking for a home with someone who is used to their breed. she is very quick and very agile for a little hamster so we would recommend she went to live in a secure glass tank. if you have experience of roborovski hamster please contact the shelter read more 02 jun ginger and snap gerbils: ginger and snap gerbils came into the shelter as they were removed by one of our inspectors, due to an unsuitable home. they are both female, we think adult age as they are fully grown. they are a sweet pair who can be picked up and handled. they are always moving things around in their tank and chewing up the cardboard tubes we put in for them. they need to go together in a suitable large glass tank read more 02 jun harvey rabbit: harvey came into the shelter as he was removed by one of our inspectors. it was an unsuitable home for him and the little hamster joey. harvey is a male rabbit about 6-8 months old. we have now neutered, vaccinated and microchipped him. harvey has not had a very good start in life, he is looking for a calm home with no children. he is scared of children due to past experiences so is looking for understanding calm owners. he can be picked up and handled. he likes treats and loves his greens as you can see him tucking into a bunch of parsley. we are looking for a home with a spayed female rabbit for harvey. read more 01 jun dolly: 4 years, female, boxer cross dolly came in on the 24th of april via an inspector and is now ready to find a new home. she is a really friendly, affectionate, gentle girl but can still be nervous and submissive initially. dolly likes nothing better than having a cuddle and is learning to play with toys (she loves a football game). she is friendly with some dogs and wary of others so would benefit from further socialisation. dolly needs a home without cats. she is looking for an experienced adult only home with someone prepared to put time into continuing her progress. read more 01 jun gus: 18 months, male, staffie gus came in on the the 23rd of april via an inspector and is now ready to find a new home. he is a bit of a softie who loves fuss, cuddles and a tummy tickle. gus enjoys his walks and playing with toys and has learnt that playing football is a fun thing to do! gus is looking for a home without other dogs or cats and would benefit from further socialisation. he needs an active, experienced home and may be able to live with older children. read more 30 may ty: 1 year, neutered male, cross breed ty came in on the 29th of may via an inspector. he is a friendly, lively boy who knows sit and his name on command, is good when groomed, housetrained and is learning to play with toys. ty has lived with other dogs in his previous home but needs a home without cats or small animals. he is a new arrival who is still being assessed. read more 30 may noodles: 9 years, female, collie cross noodles came in on the 2nd of may via an inspector. she is a lively girl who knows sit and her name on command, is housetrained and likes her treats. noodles is full of energy and loves her walks, enjoys playing with toys and will tolerate a groom! she is oky with dogs but likes her own space and will let other dogs know if they are too in her face! noodles needs a home without cats. she is looking for an experienced home without children. read more 27 may lucia: spayed female, 7 years lucia come into us because her owner had passed away. she’s a shy girl who has taken a little time to settle and will prefer a quiet home with one or two people. more info to come read more 26 may duncan: 3-4 years, neutered male, whippet cross duncan came in on the 24th of may via an inspector as he was unwanted. he is a friendly, sweet boy who knows sit, paw and his name on command, is good when groomed and enjoys playing with some toys. duncan is good with other dogs but needs a home without cats or small animals. he is looking for an active family and could live with children 8 years or older. read more 23 may asher: 16 months, male, golden retriever asher came in on the 1st of april due to his owners ill health. he is a bouncy, lively boy who can be wary until he gets to know you. asher knows sit, down, leave, come and his name on command, is housetrained, very playful with toys and loves to dig and swim! asher is very friendly and sociable with other dogs and needs to got to a home where there is already a confident, settled dog (or dogs). due to past experiences asher is very anxious and can become easily frustrated. he will need an adult only, experienced home to provide plenty of training, exercise and mental stimulation to help him overcome this. he would be better suited in a rural home. asher can be possessive over his food bowl so cannot live with children. if you think you can offer asher a suitable home please come into the shelter and speak to the staff. read more 23 may desmond rabbit: desmond came to the shelter from another rspca in putney. he was abandoned in a box in a bin, he is male about 1-2 years old, he has been vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. desmond is a very inquisitive rabbit and likes to know what the staff are doing all the time. he was underweight when he came into the shelter and is now eating well and gaining weight. he is albino and does have big ears but please do not let that put you off. he is very sweet and cheeky loves food and treats. he will need a spayed female rabbit for company who is calm, as he can be alittle bit funny with his food still. read more 23 may maisie rabbit: maisie came in for rehoming as a stray rabbit, she was found in some ones garden. maisie is a female she is now neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. we think she is about a year old. we feel maisie has had a really bad start in life. she is very shy of people and panic's when you try to pick her up. she is getting more used to us and we can now stroke her and hand feed her. we try not to pick her up too much here, so she can get used to humans being nice. due to this we feel maisie would need very understanding owners, who are prepared to take things slowly and calmly for her to get used to them. she would probably be better as a house rabbit so she does not need to be picked up to be cleaned out. maisie could possibly live on her own as a house rabbit. we would not recommend she went with children. read more 23 may dave & trigger: neutered males, 7 years dave & trigger came to us because their last owner was moving and unfortunately couldn’t take them. trigger was involved in a road traffic accident and is blind in his right eye. this doesn’t effect him at all. dave is more confident, but both cats will need a calm quiet home as they are not keen on lots of noise etc. so would best suit one or two people. read more 17 may bruno: 1 year, male, cross breed bruno came in on the 12th of may as his previous owner was unable to keep him. he is a friendly, lively boy who can be a little shy until he has met you. bruno knows sit, down and paw on command but would benefit from ongoing training. he is ok when groomed and loves playing with toys. bruno is good with other dogs but needs a home without cats. he is looking for an active, experienced home and could live with older children who are used to bouncy dogs. read more 16 may ali: 4-5 years, female, cross breed ali came in on the 13th of may as she was unwanted. she is a friendly, sweet girl who knows sit and her name on command and enjoys being groomed but would benefit from further training. ali is very affectionate and enjoys a cuddle. ali is ok with some dogs but needs to be the only dog in the home. she cannot live with cats. ali could be homed with children 8 years or older. read more 16 may oliver: neutered male, 7 years oliver came to us from a multi cat household. he came in covered in fleas! he’s a little nervous at first and sometimes a bit jumpy around lots of noise, so will best suit a calmer home. read more 12 may freddy: 8 years, neutered male, staffie cross freddie came in on the 1st of may via an inspector. he is a sweet, friendly boy who knows sit and his name on command and would play with toys all day! freddy has lived with another dog in his previous home and gets on with most other dogs when walked but would prefer to be the only dog in his new home. he needs a home without cats. he is looking for an active, experienced family and could live with children 10 years or older who are used to dogs. read more by a fox and the fox keeps returning to the garden. nellie is a 5 year old lop rabbit, who is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. nellie is a nice sweet rabbit but not keen on being picked up, due to this she would be better in an adult home or a home with older children. nellie is looking for a calm neutered male rabbit for company read more 08 may ferrero and lindt rabbits: ferrero and lindt came in for rehoming as their owner is poorly and could no longer look after them. they are sisters to hershey and nestle. they are both 1 year old and have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. we are looking for a home for ferrero and lindt together, they are a sweet pair but not that keen on being picked up, so would be best in a home with older children or an adult only home. read more 07 few people and living rough. he was very nervous when he arrived and quite hissy toward us, but has calmed down and now quite sweet. although he will let you know when he’s had enough. he would suit a
